Like the perfect cocktail, Bemelman’s Bar combines a historic legacy with elegance, glamour, and sophistication. Named after noted The New Yorker artist, and creator of the Madeleine children’s books, Ludwig Bemelman, Bemelmans bar is his last surviving commission. The wall-to-wall murals painted by Bemelman are reason enough to visit this NYC institution, but far from the only draw of the place. The beautiful, thoughtfully maintained art deco interior really comes alive with jazz performances every night, sometimes bringing on unexpected performers like Woody Allen. Housed in the elegant Carlyle Hotel, Bemelmans impressive bar menu, and even more impressive ambience does come in at a higher price, but one visit to this place, and you’ll see it’s worth every penny.
