We had a chance to talk with Celine during New York Fashion Week about her unique, elegant, minimalistic style. Here’s what she had to say about the latest fashion shows and her own take on dressing for fall in her exclusive interview with Fashion IQ:

What is the golden rule of your personal style?

You should always stick to your style and try not to follow all the others. The key is to use timeless pieces and looks that match with what you have in your wardrobe. Also, if you wear black or white you will never make a mistake and you will fit in everywhere.

Colors and prints may be super nice on others but not on me. Don’t follow all the new trends and don’t try too hard. What you wear in your everyday life should be a guideline for how to dress during the weekends and for fashion week. I love the Scandinavian look and for me its important to be an ambassador out there for Scandinavian design.

What is your favorite fall trend, including your latest handbag obsession?

I love fall, and fall/winter is much more interesting than spring/summer. This season is all retro and ‘brown is the New black.’ I will welcome back the Mod, the 70s, and the 90s. Key items are ribbon turtlenecks, chunky knits, flare pants, wide belts, and elegant minimalism.

My biggest handbag obsession ever is The Acne Studios Envelope Clutch, other handbag obsessions include The Big Chanel bag and The black LV Twist Bag I was wearing during Paris Fashion Week.

Who is your favorite, new, up and coming designer?

The Norwegian designer Veronica B. Vallenes is a personal favorite, so are Fall Winter Spring Summer (FWSS) and Mardou & Dean. Carin Wester is a Swedish favorite worth mentioning, and a favorite Danish brand is 2nd Day.

When visiting NYC, where is your favorite place to shop?

I didn’t have time to shop this time. To be honest I didn’t enter any store during my whole stay in New York, but I like both the Meatpacking District & Soho. I buy gifts for my boyfriend at Saturdays NYC and in the Financial District it’s possible to buy designer goodies for nothing.

Where is your favorite place to dine in NYC?

There are so many nice places, and my list for my next trip to NYC are long. This season we almost had all our brunches at La Bodega Negra at Dream Downtown eating ceviche in the small bar on the first floor.

What was your favorite show of NYFW Spring 2016 last month, and why did it stand out?

Alexander Wang – I still can’t believe that I was there on his 10th anniversary and both the show and after party were not ones to miss. The outfits were amazing and the casting insane. DKNY and Derek Lam were other favorites. DKNY was black and white perfection.
