TRENDS & TIPS: The Face of Normcore – Slip On Sandals

What the fashion world calls the “ugly” pool sliders, are really all the rage for casual footwear this summer. The sporty slip on sandals have been seen on stars like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who not only sport the look but it made the footwear of choice for The Row’s Spring Runway Show.

Although we love this comfy trend, we know it can be intimidating. Our stylists put together some fashion trend advice on how to make these slides a part of your summer wardrobe. Here are three tips to master the slide!

  • Pair with White Socks: Yes, pairing with white socks is definitely recommended! This isn’t only convenient for cooler days, but it’s nice to know this comfy trend can follow you into fall.  One bit of advice… be careful when pairing white socks with more formal looks- It’s easy to go overboard.
  • Dress Simply: pairing these slip on sandals with a dark, knee length dress is a nice way to make your slides more elegant. Maison Margiela’s black trapeze dress would be magical for a casual-chic ensemble, or to really dress up your slides, try pairing them with something like Roksanda’s Allis Midi Dress in black.
  • Trousers and a Blazer: your favorite slip on sandals, no matter how sporty, will look amazing with the right slacks and jacket. Throw on a pair of elegantly wide-leg trousers that you aren’t afraid to have touch the ground, your favorite t-shirt, a classic blazer, and voilà… you look magnifique!
