WEEKEND EATS: Cafe Clover

WEEKEND EATS: Cafe Clover
The only thing more charming than the West Village might just be a meal at the cozy and decadent Cafe Clover. Here, a modern yet rustic interior draws you in, but the exquisite, interesting food and cocktails are what will keep you coming back. Plenty of restaurants in New York specialize in “New American” cuisine, but this is one of the few times where the flavors in each plate really felt new. Each lovely presentation highlighted the natural flavors of the ingredients, while small touches of eastern spices showed a different side to classic plates that were completely unexpected.
Octopus A La Plancha
The Octopus A La Plancha starter with roasted cauliflower, new potatoes and smoked chili was incredible, and a great compliment to the Shaved Hamachi with sunchoke, sweet gem, and yuzu. We also highly recommend the Poached Halibut and the Mahi Mahi, not to mention the earthy and crisp Braised Winter Turnips with cumin oil and mint.

Strip Loin & Cauliflower Steak

While the end of any delicious meal is always a little sad, the dessert here is a delectable consolation prize. Words cannot describe the feeling of delight we experienced while indulging in the Almond Milk Panna Cotta with rose petal syrup, and the Honey Crisp Apple Tart with pumpkin seed crust, and mascarpone gelato.

With features in Vogue, WWD, and Zagat, this place is receiving plenty of deserved attention. Even with a reservation, we still waited 15 minutes for a table. Cafe Clover has a fun atmosphere and high noise level, so we’d recommend going here with a group of friends, over an intimate dinner for two. Either way, make a reservation, and prepare for your next food coma.
