FALL TREND: 80s and 90s Trends Revival

What comes around goes around, and that’s certainly true when it comes to fashion trends. Though we can’t say designers went full grunge or punk rock, we can say we will have the pleasure this fall of re-living the 80s and 90s trends of the past… well, at least some of the styles.

PLAID

Plaid, the ‘beloved’ garment of choice for the punk and grunge rockers of the past has made a strong comeback this fall; though it isn’t manifesting in the tight, plaid bondage pants or in the faded plaid flannel shirts wrapped around waists. Thankfully, designers have been much more tasteful than that. Plaid coats with clean lines abound, and full plaid ensembles for men and women do too.

TALL COATS

Not every look from the 80s and 90s stemmed from teenage rebellions, there were some classy looks too. Long, tall, full, and flowing coats of the glamorous 80s have returned. Though in our opinion, with a lot less puff and much more simple elegance.

THE 90s COLLAR

This collar lost a lot of respect as the 90s faded away, but time changes everything. Designers have revived and refreshed this long collar look this coming fall, and it’s rebirth proves that some things only get better with age.

WIDE SLEEVES

The 80s were all about puffing things up, not just hair, sleeves too. This fall you can expect to see, and hopefully wear, puffy sleeved dresses, sweaters, and coats. But, this time around your wide sleeve look with feature more angular, well-fitted sleeves than their 80s predecessors.

GLOSSY LEATHER

Every ex-Goth is jumping with glee to see this come back. Yes! dressing up in tight, glossy, leather and rubber is back, and not just for your cat woman costume on Halloween. So grab your favorite NIN album and dig through your closet for your old Goth garb… it’s back!

So what have we learned? There must be a lot of designers with punk, grunge, and Goth rocker pasts. For those of us that were once one too, we have to say thanks for letting us relive our rebellious teenage years. This time we will rock our looks with fewer angry faces and much better clothing.
