A trip to the meatpacking district is worthwhile, even if Owen is your only destination. Since opening in 2012, this anything but basic boutique has gained a following among the style elite, and has found a niche in the market for young, New York designers.
Owen’s assortment, which is equally balanced between menswear and womenswear, is hand-picked by owner, Phillip Salem, who aims to carry pieces that make a statement without compromising timelessness.

Whether it’s a stunning evening gown from Kaufman Franco RST 2015, a beautiful elastic back peacoat from Carven, or straight o the runway looks from FW14 Cushnie et Ochs, this is a shop that typically only carries one of each size in a given style, so decisiveness is key to leaving with what you want before somebody else does.

And everyone wants a piece of Owen. With designers like Alexander Wang, Isabel Marant, SUNO, and Jennifer Fisher to name a few, it is no wonder why many items have a wait-list before they even reach the store

The assortment at Owen highlights contrasts between textures, colors, and points of view, but more than anything the contrast between soft and hard, an idea perfectly embodied by two of their featured jewelry collections, Jennifer Fisher and Paula Mendoza.

At first, you aren’t sure what makes up the soft, curved structure extending from one side of the room to the exposed brick wall on the other, and then you realize that the neutral palette and almost floral look of the installation is actually just 25,000 paper bags, joined together and gracefully suspended in their showroom.

Only adding to the feeling of warmth, is the presence of natural light. Owen’s large skylights present their product in the best possible way, allowing clients to see the finer details of construction and color, as well as offer a nice reprieve from the horror that is bad lighting in a fitting room.
