NYC DR. LIPMAN : The Magic Master Of Nutrition

NYC DR. LIPMAN : The Magic Master Of Nutrition

When I first came to live in NYC, my friend told me that there were 3 things I would need to get by here: a shrink, a personal trainer and a nutritionist. I decided to start with the nutritionist. Being married to a professional athlete saves me a lot of money on a personal trainer, and I’ve never been in need of a shrink, but never say never- I might need one after I have my fourth child in February. I was blessed to get a reference for my sweet, yet bold, Dr. Lipman. I swear he made me pregnant, not my husband!”

Now don’t get me wrong, I was totally infertile when I first went to see him, and the issue was not that I am 40. I guess he just managed to align my body really well through various methods including acupuncture, a master cleanse, food supplements and a nutritious diet plan. I love his nature and his attitude. He insists that sugar and gluten are the worst evils of the world, and I believe him. The whole world is so hooked on sugar, that we don’t even realize that we’re addicts.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are still out of the loop, and don’t realize that sugars are complex carbs. They just think of sugar as a refined white substance that is sweet! And it is, but haven’t you ever thought that mac and cheese is pure crack? Dr. Lipman believes in proteins and good fats, especially grass-fed fats. He loves saying that fat does not make you fat, but sugar does! Olive oil, coconut oil, and avocado are your best friends. Grass-fed meats are also great for your body, and organic is really important. You definitely don’t want to consume anything canned, or factory farmed. Grains are important too, but should be gluten-free. Forget about white, wheat, and rye breads. Even though they sound healthy, oats and couscous should still be avoided. If you cut down on gluten you will feel the difference right away. You won’t feel as tired as before. You will have energy throughout the day and won’t ever think about having coffee to cheer you up in the afternoon.

Dr. Lipman’s advice isn’t limited just to what you should eat or not. He educates you about many aspects of health, and then works with you to develop a plan that is custom to your body and your needs. Extensive Blood work is required. He looks at the hormones regular doctors don’t pay attention to. He fixes your iron, your vitamin D deficiency, and even your libido with supplements that are available in his office. If you are strongly determined to lose weight, his “sustain” shakes can help. Basically it’s a meal replacement protein shake that you take in the morning, and you won’t want to eat again until late afternoon. They suppress your appetite, and make you feel full, never hungry. I love my doctor because he never encourages you to diet, instead he encourages you to eat right!

If you’re ever in NYC, scheduling an appointment with him is worth doing. It can be life-changing. Although the initial consultation with him is around $400 dollars (not cheap) and no insurance covers it, Dr. Lipman’s service is worth it! You will probably start with his master cleanse, which lasts about 2 weeks and is really easy to do. You are not food-deprived during this time, but you’re only allowed to eat the right things. He is good about giving you a list of foods you will need, including recipes for meals and shakes. And you know how doctors have to be discreet about their patients? Dr. Lipman is no exception. Whether it’s for general wellness, or fertility, he will never tell you who his celebrity clients are, but leaving his office yesterday I accidentally bumped into Maggie Gyllenhaal… So is she, or isn’t she??

The doctor is known for his special smoothies which are made using his Be Well Sustain powder. Here’s one of his favorites, the Pumpkin Pie smoothie along with a recipe, you must try!

Pumpkin Pie smoothie

1 Sustain packet
4 – 6 oz water
4 – 6 oz unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 cup cooked pumpkin, preferably organic
1⁄2 frozen banana cut into chunks
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp coconut oil
Dash of cinnamon
4 ice cubes

Add all ingredients into blender and blend till smooth and creamy.
