TREND: New Vision on Traditional Plaid

Plaid, the tartan cloth that originated with the Scottish, has spread way beyond the highlands. Lots of fashionable outlanders have turned to the crisscrossed pattern to define their look, and here are some tips on making the tartan design work for you too.

GOING FULL PLAID: Like the Stella McCartney & Acne Studios looks above, gong full plaid is a bold move. It takes courage and confidence to don this look because it will, especially if its colorful, draw all eyes to you. If you don’t mind that sort of thing, trying an all plaid ensemble will make a playful day for you.

MIXING PATTERNS: Another way to boldly use plaid, is by mixing patterns. Like the Marni look above, mixing patterns can create a beautiful and outstanding ensemble. Using patterns from the same collection, with similar color themes, is a safe way to begin playing with this theme. One great fashionista to keep an eye on, if your interested in mastering this statement look, is Natasha Goldenberg. She is the master of color and pattern mixing.

Plaid is a powerful pattern and wants to be the center of attention so never add elements to your look that will war with it. You will loose that battle if you aren’t an expert already. Remember to respect the plaid next time you wear your tartan ensemble by choosing complementary accessories and shoes… It’s bound to be a memorable day!
