WEEKEND EATS: NYC’s Estela Restaurant

One of the most talked about restaurants in the city, perhaps partially due to the impromptu visit by President Obama and the First Lady, Estela is an approachable restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Specializing in American cuisine with European influences, Estela is mainly a beverage-driven restaurant, featuring an extensive wine list of over 200 selections. The creative mind behind the flavorful cuisine of Estela is James Beard Award-nominated chef and co-owner, Ignacio Mattos. The Uruguyan chef is a minimalist who is even celebrated by Bon Appetite; the culinary magazine declared him the 2012 tastemaker for his ability to perfectly combine flavors and textures from just a few simple, seasonal ingredients.

When you visit Estela, you’ll be able to sample shareable size plates by this fabulous chef. Dishes like Arroz negro with squid and romesco, burrata with salsa verde, ricotta dumplings, not to mention the dish most raved about by critics, Pancetta, avocado, and egg on a Danish pastry. Yum!  The inventive cuisine is deliciously frivolous. Indulge in the unique dishes and you will be tempted to ask for more, but you will surely leave satisfied and pleasantly amused upon your departure. In the chef’s own words,

“The idea behind our food is that it’s unassuming and unpretentious, but then when you eat it, you’re like, what just happened?!’”

A bold statement, no doubt, but we have to say… dining at Estela will definitely be one of the best, most memorable meals!
