If you’re in LA between now and August 21st, a visit to LACMA’s Reigning Men exhibition is a must. The retrospective features 300(!) years of the most coveted, interesting, and beautiful menswear from all over the world, curated in a way that makes you rethink what you know about men’s fashion.
In addition to the tailored garments from the world’s best designers, we loved seeing the shoes. If you didn’t snag a pair of Raf Simmons’ Adidas boots last fall, you can at least see them here, alongside incredible Vivienne Westwood platforms, and Prada brogues.
What makes this retrospective so cool, is seeing pieces from so many different eras standing side-by-side- You’re really able to see how fashion evolves. The show also questions what is masculine, with several garments featuring cuts, colors, padding, and finishes that might normally be thought of as very feminine.
An exhibit this inspiring doesn’t come around too often, and truly has something for everyone, even the activewear will blow your mind! If nothing else, history repeats itself, and seeing 200 looks from the past will get you excited about what is coming next.
