Who says you won’t want to shop for clothes when you are 35 weeks pregnant? At this point it becomes even more exciting!! Nothing fits and you know you can’t buy it, so you act like a broke student, window shopping and dreaming! Dreaming to become small again…
I went window shopping last week in my wheelchair, as my doctor no longer allows me to walk at this point. My doctor is a miracle (not only is she the best doctor in the world) but she has forced me to save a lot of money by limiting me to bed rest for 4 months! As you know, I don’t give up that easily- online shopping is still good for me. Lol! But to be more serious, you better believe I have completed a list for post-birth shopping for clothes.
I don’t know how you feel about Saint Laurent, but Hedi Slimane has gotten me in some real trouble. It’s that particular situation when you see a collection and want to buy everything. The resort collection, which is in stores now now works perfectly for any west coast girl (which I totally am on top of being a peasant Russian.) It has pretty much had the same effect on me as Chanel Paris Dallas did, when for the first time in my life, I regretted not riding a horse. It turns out I am a total sucker for all the western crap!
“Hey, it may seem tacky, but cowgirl clothes are timeless and a great investment.”
For example, I don’t feel the same way about the Chanel Paris Dubai collection. Maybe because I’ve never felt too much passion for Chanel. It normally makes me itchy ;)
So on top of being a Hedi Slimane rock n’ roll cowgirl, my favorite is Céline. This store I try to avoid through any means, because if I go in – I commit a crime. Well, I mean I did commit a crime like a month ago. It was the holidays and the jury was on my side. Greenpeace wasn’t though… My Russian blood is always cold, so I needed a fur. A fur that was the only one in the country. I had no choice!!
But for the record:
There can never be enough Céline skates in your closet, even if you don’t skateboard!!
Also, she cuts the most amazing coats, and an extra cashmere coat never hurt anybody.
I am also a big fan of Marni, Prada, and Chloe. One of my recent special orders from Prada was their pink shoes! They may sound crazy, but look amazing. Essentially, Prada is beyond amazing, and the reason is she really succeeds at keeping up with the basics from year to year, and they’re always a good investment! She is also so great at coming up with unique pieces that could be considered works of art!!
But there are always a few no nos for me. Some feminine lines that I have a lot of respect for, but never wear myself, like Dolce and Gabbana, and Valentino. Those are the stores I never walk into, and it’s hard to explain why. Also, What is up with Roverto Cavalli, and Emilio Pucci? Who is their client? I wonder. I mean, I guess Missoni is still going strong, especially with their mare decision (I guess it keeps them afloat?)
Pretty much, all of the brands are available in New York, and it’s easy to spend a lot of money, since so many things are here!! In the case of the Céline fur, the jury was on my side, but that isn’t always the case. I really recommend getting a personal shopper and stylist when shopping in New York, or it can be very difficult to manage your spending, and exit a store without taking the whole thing home with you!
