Gucci
Shot on the streets, beaches, and subways of LA, Photographer Glen Luchford made the passerbys as much a part of the shoot as the models. Alessandro Michele creatively directed the campaign, telling the Huffington Post in an article that, “I decided to go back to the streets… I believe there is a fluid and organic contamination that exists between the catwalk and the street. Fashion, especially ready-to-wear, is something real, made for every day and for everyone to express their own creativity and individuality.”
Miu Miu
Toeing the line between theatre and fashion photography, photographer Steven Miesel captured Miu Miu’s sixties inspired collection on the streets of New York City. The ‘show’ starred Nymphomaniac actresses Stacy Martin and Mia Goth who were not only staged amidst passerbys, but interacted with them seductively.
Céline
Phoebe Philo’s photographer of choice, Juergen Teller, has remained the same and so has her dynamism in choosing a model. As forward thinking as usual, Philo chose Biology student Karly Loyce to be the face of Céline this season and it has officially changed Loyce’s career. In response to the sudden success in modeling, Loyce reportedly stated that, “All this happened so fast—a few months ago I was a biology student and now I’m a model. I still can’t quite believe it.”
Alexander McQueen
Since David Sims’ photos were actually Sarah Burton’s inspiration for the fall Alexander McQueen show, it only makes sense that he would be the one to shoot the campaign. Sims photos of the collection are as deliciously gothic as an Alexander McQueen campaign should be.
Valentino
Michal Pudelka may have photographed Valentino’s campaign in his hometown of Bratislava, but it looks like he captured the models while they fell down the rabbit’s hole. The up and coming photographer’s ethereal approach to capturing scenes makes him the perfect combination for the wispy designs of Valentino. It’s no wonder he’s become their new photographic prodigy.
Jil Sander
There were no model celebrities or complex staging. It was a campaign shot by Collier Schorr that was elegant in its simplicity and in its theme. In this campaign the clothing was the focus, and it was kind of refreshing.
Louis Vuitton
A duo photographer/local shoot (Juergen Teller in Barcelona and Bruce Weber at an airport in Miami) pushed Louis Vuitton’s more traditional campaign to a more dynamic, artistic plane. The shoot featured actress Jennifer Connelly and 4 other models in a curated collection the photography duo is calling Series 3.
Sonya Rykiel
Jagger sisters, Elizabeth and Georgia May, were Juergen Teller’s subjects for this photo shoot. Shot near Sonya Rykiel’s office in Paris, Teller had them swinging their long hair and hugging trees while, of course, wearing beautiful clothing. We love that Juergen Teller can get anyone to do (just about) anything.
Marni
There must have been a lot of pressure for Marni to get their first ever ad campaign right, and photographer Jackie Nickerson couldn’t have done better. It was completely unique, artistic, and utterly Marni— the photos were composed geometrically in a manner that could easily be used as a pattern in the fashion house’s clothing.
