FASHION IQ SELECTION : Mixing Business With Style

Suits are no longer reserved for the office only. The ‘Business look’ trend was seen all over fashion week, with fashionistas sporting looks combining structured blazers, pants, streamlined skirts, coats, and interesting accessories. The pantsuits were also a fixture on runways this season, with so many options and great alternatives from designers like Helmut Lang, Tom Ford, Celine, Sonia Rykiel, Chanel, Stella McCartney, as well as many others.

TIP 1: Shake up the business look: Corporate style doesn’t have to be boring. From pairing a pencil skirt with sneakers to wearing a structured pantsuit with loafers and a bright clutch, it’s all about creating contrast while retaining polish. Monochrome or multi colored, the key is to add a personal touch while making it casually wearable.

TIP 2: Maintaining Femininity with an Androgynous Suit: A classic pantsuit is a staple in anyone’s wardrobe but who wouldn’t love channeling Coco Chanel through the ‘Lady Tomboy’ look? There are many ways to create the look that is both feminine and stylish. Take a minimalistic approach, adding a casual element for an everyday look. The crisp button down paired with jeans is instantly classic while the ‘black and white’ look is always a safe bet. Add a pair of fun stilettos to your favorite pair of jeans, a white button up top, dark blazer and you will have all you need in an outfit.

TIP 3: From Leather to Tweed: Whether you want to look polished or slouchy chic, the cut, the fit and hem length are something to consider : pencil or longline midi skirt, A-line or pleated, maxi or mini. A simple white t-shirt can look ultra chic with a leather pant and stilettos worn with an oversized blazer, while opting for a tweed jacket or a tailored pant can add a classic touch. Choosing different textures, like leather, will add an edge to your look while silk and lace can add an element of sensuality. The details like embroidery, stripes, and asymmetry cuts can add an unexpected twist , exerting a sense of elegance and sophistication while making you feel unique. Accessories, including a neutral tote, bright satchel, geometric clutch, brim fedora, or a floppy hat are chic ways to create a contrast and add a nice touch to the outfit.

Some general advice to make the look perfect… It doesn’t matter whether you fully match or mix it up. What matters is to play with shapes and textures that accentuate your best features. And don’t forget that nearly any outfit can be made extraordinary by the right shoes and accessories. Check out some of our favorite Fashion Week selections for more ideas.
