NYC GIRL: ESTER SHENKMAN

NYC GIRL: ESTER SHENKMAN

Our feature girl of the month is Ester Shenkman, a student at Parsons The New School for Design and a prospering model living in New york City. Ester has big plans for the future, this summer she is traveling with her school on a Fashion Merchandising trip all over Italy visiting the most popular fashion destinations : leather craftsmen, textile mills and trade shows. In addition, she’s working hard on her modeling career, with lots of exciting shoots and projects planned ahead.

Here’s her story:

As far as style, Ester sticks to her own instincts drawing inspiration from iconic women such as Grace Kelly, Jane Birkin, and Brigitte Bardot. We were immediately drawn to her unique sense of style and outgoing personality. By looking at her petite frame, it’s hard to expect her bold choice of colors and textures, but she pulls it off effortlessly. As Ester puts it herself,

“When I get dressed in the morning I go with my first instinct, the more you think the worse it looks. The most important aspect of dressing for me is to feel comfortable. I love to wear big oversized sweaters over evening dresses. I like a look that is unusual and unexpected. For example a sequence gown worn with wet hair, or cheap cotton sweatpants with Alaia heels.”

I love New York because only here can one experience such a wide range of cuisine on such a small island called Manhattan. I love trying different kinds of food! I love going to Freemans restaurant, for its unique location (at the end of a hidden alley..) and trendy yet cozy decor with atmospheric allure.

Cafe Gitane is a cute little french place in the Nolita district, perfect for brunches on a sunday morning, with yummy food and delicious coffee.

I really like Opening Ceremony, it’s an eclectic, fun and fashion forward store, full of different and interesting items which always surprise me.  They have a showcase of unique designers which I absolutely love.

Spring and Summer are the best times to be here, it’s the heart of NYC. One of the best places for leisure and pampering are Whittemore House Salon, located in West village. They do amazing hair, Victoria is the best colorist there. I strongly recommend.

My favorite place to get a manicure is at Tenoverten in Tribeca. Best nails in town, ask for Alla when booking your appointment.

One of my favorite museums is The Frick Collection, located on the Upper East side, which includes some of the best known paintings and works by the greatest European artists.
